Empower Orphan Mothers: Transform Lives Through Generosity

Our Mission

Orphanmothers is a 501C3 organization dedicated to uplifting orphanmothers and their children and move them out of poverty.

Empower Orphan Mothers: Transform Lives Through Your Generosity

Your generous donation can have a lasting impact on the lives of orphan mothers. By supporting them, you are helping create a brighter future for their children and families. The Somali Civil War, which began in 1991, left deep scars on the social fabric of Somalia. While much attention has been given to the direct effects of conflict displacement, loss of life, and economic collapse, there has been less

focus on a particularly vulnerable group: orphan mothers. These women are often widowed by the war, left as sole caregivers for their children, or were themselves orphaned during the conflict and are raising their families in its

aftermath. We invite you to join us in uplifting these women. Your support will help provide the resources they need to overcome the generational poverty caused by the war and build a brighter future for themselves and their children.

Challenges Faced by Orphan Mothers

Orphan mothers in Somalia face unique and overwhelming challenges. Here's a look at some of the critical struggles they endure:

Economic Hardship

  • Many orphan mothers lack access to stable employment or livelihood opportunities, which worsens their poverty.
  • They often rely on informal labor or subsistence farming, which provides little economic security.

Mental Health Struggles

  • The trauma of losing loved ones, experiencing violence, and enduring      displacement takes a significant toll on their mental well-being.
  • The stigma surrounding mental health and the lack of available support services only make their situation worse.

Social Stigmatization and Isolation

  • Widows and women without male relatives are often marginalized in Somali society.
  • Orphan mothers may be seen as burdens or face discriminatory practices, particularly regarding inheritance or property rights.

Limited Access to Education and Healthcare

  • Many orphan mothers lack formal education, which limits their ability to secure resources for themselves and their children.
  • Access healthcare—especially maternal and child healthcare—is scarce, particularly in conflict zones or refugee camps.

Vulnerability to Gender-Based Violence

  • The  absence of a male protector leaves orphan mothers  process of assisting them
